Therefore Andre Onana should be available for Cameroon as they play hosts against Algeria in a very important 2022 World Cup Qualifier clash on Friday.
The Indomitable Lions are already without Napoli midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa for the important clash. So missing out on the Ajax custodian would have been a big blow for Cameroon.
Andre-Frank Zambo Aguissa was injured while he was plying his trade for Napoli in the Serie A against Udinese. Napoli won that game eventually courtesy of Victor Osimhen’s double which helped them win 2-1.
Zambo Anguissa played the entire game but suffered an injury which was confirmed by the Indomitable Lions. Cameroon have now brought in Arnaud Djoum of Apollon Limassol a replacement for the Napoli star.
The Indomitable Lions reached the last four at the Africa Cup of Nations where Andre Onana was between the sticks for Cameroon. However, they lost against Egypt in the semifinals. Cameroon lost the Africa Cup of Nations semifinals on penalties which left Onana little moved as he had the chance of winning it for his team. For now, they need to win against Algeria in their World Cup qualifier clash.
At club level Onana’s future is still undecided, the young custodian has clearly stated that he is no longer interested in signing an extension with Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam. He first joined the club in 2016 and has won two Eredivisie titles alongside two Dutch FA Cups. He was one match away from clinching the Europa League but Ajax were beaten in the finals by Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United. Onana then also reached the UEFA Champions League semifinals with Ajax but his current deal with the Dutch giants ends this summer.
