Ambrose was allegedly designated as an accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act in July of last year, which allegedly marked the beginning of criminal procedures against him (POCSO). At the time, the Dwarka Police Station had informed ESPN that a case had been opened there. Ambrose had submitted a legal notice to the All India Football Federation for “tarnishing his reputation by levelling frivolous charges” even though he has denied any misconduct. Since then, the AIFF has not provided any updates on the situation.

Ambrose is said to have been caught in an uncomfortable circumstance with a member of the side during the U-17 side’s exposure trip to Norway, which is when the issue first came to light. He was sent back to India right away. In response to her roommate’s disappearance from her hostel, a member of the team, a player protested to head coach Thomas Dennerby, according to sources. Even though a press release from that time stated that “further action” will be taken against him, there have been no updates since July regarding the event.

“An event of misconduct has been reported in the U-17 women’s team, currently on an exposure tour to Europe. The AIFF follows a zero-tolerance policy on indiscipline. As an initial action, the Federation has provisionally suspended the individual pending further investigation,” read the statement from the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) overseeing the AIFF at the time.

“The AIFF has asked the concerned individual to stop all contact with the team, return to India immediately, and be physically present for further investigations upon his arrival.”

The federation had, however, provided no further information regarding the case. FIFA issued a ban on the AIFF in August, and by the time India hosted the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in October, a new administration had been installed. The Indian football players did not remain silent during this time. While Bengaluru FC’ s Suresh Wangjam and Indian National Men’s Team keeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu used social media to denounce the incident as early as July. The first people to comment on the arrest were Captain Ashalata Devi and Custodian Aditi Chauhan of the women’s team.
