Al Ittihad book medicals for World-Cup winning defender Sergio Ramos

The Saudi window closes on September 7 and Al Ittihad are keen to secure a move for Ramos after missing out on Real Betis defender Luiz Felipe

Al Ittihad’s search for a new centre-back has landed them at the door of Sergio Ramos. The Saudi Pro League team has now booked medicals for the World Cup winning defender next week. They are waiting for the player’s green light, according to reports.

The Saudi window closes on September 7 and Al Ittihad are keen to secure a move for Ramos. The Saudi side missed out on Real Betis defender Luiz Felipe.

Options galore for Ramos

Ramos has other choices to think about now that he has left Paris Saint-Germain and is a free agent.

Turkey’s Besiktas and Galatasaray are also interested in the center-back.

If Ramos decides to join the Turkish Super League, he may need to act quickly because Besiktas’s offer, worth more than €8 million ($9 million/£7 million) annually, is set to expire on Monday.

Ramos-Benzema Reunion?

Ramos will have a chance to reunite with former Real Madrid team-mate Karim Benzema should he decide to move to Saudi Arabia and take up Al Ittihad’s offer.

Al Ettihad has presented an offer of a two year deal with break clause included in the contract to the former Real Madrid defender.

The decision for the next move lies with Ramos. He still has the ability to compete at the highest level in Europe.

Decision soon

He was a regular starter for a top team like PSG even during the previous season. He should therefore have no issues carrying on playing in the Champions League.

At the same time, it’s crucial to acknowledge that Ramos has accomplished everything there is to accomplish in Europe. So, it shouldn’t be shocking if he decides to seek a fresh challenge at the age of 37.

Insidesport

Even the idea of Real Madrid signing Ramos as a free agent to take Eder Militao’s place in the club has been floated. But it seems unlikely that the club legend will make a return to Santiago Bernabeu, even on a temporary basis.
