Mason Greenwood has interest from clubs

Mason Greenwood, a Manchester United exile, is expected to sign a £10 million contract with Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia. If not, he may also get to work with Jose Mourinho again. The Saudi team Al-Ettifaq, who named Liverpool icon Gerrard manager this summer, is interested in the former England striker.

Following United’s announcement of his departure, It could be learned that other Saudi teams are also contemplating a move for the 21-year-old. Both Turkey’s top team, Galatasaray, and former United manager Jose Mourinho’s Serie A team, AS Roma in Italy, are keeping an eye on him.

Many Saudi teams are interested, including Gerrard’s team, who are debating whether to extend an offer of £10 million a year. Jordan Henderson, the vice-captain of England, who now earns £700,000 a week from the Saudi club, was one of Al-Ettifaq’s summer additions. Galatasaray has also added Hakim Ziyech on loan from Chelsea and Wilfried Zaha on a free transfer from Crystal Palace.

Manchester United release statement on Greenwood

Only hours after the Old Trafford club confirmed Greenwood’s departure, reports of the possible transfers surfaced. Nevertheless, the Premier League powerhouses may have to pay millions of pounds for this deal. Today, United said that they and the 21-year-old forward had reached a “collaborative decision” for him to go on.

The club did not disclose if he will be sold or placed on loan, or if his £75,000-per-week contract would be cancelled. They now have ten days to get rid of Greenwood or risk losing millions of dollars. The only way they could extend it until the deadline is if a Saudi Arabian club signs Greenwood. That is because their deadline in the transfer window is 20th September.

If United haven’t sold or loaned him out by September 1 when football’s summer transfer window closes, they could have to pay him millions to cancel his contract which is due to expire in 2025.

In July, it was revealed by a source that Jose Mourinho rang up Greenwood to talk about a loan move to Roma. The source said, ‘Jose rang Mason’s dad and also spoke with Mason. He told him the best way out of his current situation is to start playing football — and that eventually all the hassle will fade away.’

The source continued, ‘Mason was pleased that he got in touch and it has lifted his spirits. He wants to get back playing and is just waiting for United to tell him what the future holds.’
