AIFF Introduces PoSH policy to combat sexual harassment in Indian Football

AIFF PoSH policy is based on the PoSH Act of 2013 and aims to maintain a safe working environment

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has officially approved the AIFF Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) policy, effective immediately. This crucial step follows the AIFF Executive Committee’s thorough discussions and careful consideration to ensure a safe and inclusive environment within the football community.

AIFF approve and implement PoSH policy

The AIFF PoSH policy is based on the PoSH Act of 2013 and aims to maintain a safe working environment. It has been carefully designed by the AIFF legal team to meet high standards of compliance and effectiveness. AIFF Acting Secretary General Mr. M Satyanarayan commented on the importance of this policy, stating, “The need for a PoSH policy exclusively for the AIFF staff was much needed. We have drafted this by taking policies as per the PoSH Act of 2013 and the policies in a few other organizations, incorporating them into our policy.”

Mr. Satyanarayan also mentioned that the PoSH policy will be adaptable and can be updated as needed. He added, “We have also planned to have an expert on the PoSH policy to address our staff at least three times a year to keep reminding them of it.” He emphasized the importance of this policy for the junior and women’s teams, ensuring that all stakeholders in various positions are fully aware of it.

This move by the AIFF comes in the wake of recent incidents involving sexual harassment allegations, notably against U-17 coach Alex Ambrose, who faced serious charges after multiple players accused him of misconduct. The implementation of the PoSH policy is a significant step toward fostering a safer environment for all members of the football community.
