FC Barcelona have officially confirmed that Jules Kounde has picked up a knee injury. The centre back came off the pitch in the second half of Barcelona’s 2-2 draw against Granada last evening. The centre back looked visibly uncomfortable with his knee after the injury, and could miss this season’s first El Clasico on 28th October.

“Tests carried out have shown that first team player Jules Kounde has a left MCL sprain. He is out and his recovery will determine his availability,” the official statement from the club read.

This season, Kounde has established himself as a dependable member of the backline, having started all of the eleven matches played across all competitions for the Catalans. The injury to the defender ahead of the crucial tie against Real Madrid could prove to be a major worry for Barcelona.

The 24-year-old was part of the starting XI against Granada last night but had to come off with a knee issue after colliding with a teammate inside his own box.

Barcelona have confirmed that Jules Kounde has sustained a minor injury to his left knee following further examinations today. Initial examinations had determined that the injury was not serious.

Kounde will therefore not be representing the French national team in their upcoming international matches against Netherlands and Scotland. He will be replaced by Chelsea’s Axel Disasi.

Kounde will certainly be racing against time to get fit in time to play in El Clasico. It would be touch and go considering the El Clasico is less than 20 days away. Multiple reports claim the defender could be sidelined for at least 5 to 6 weeks. If that is the case, Xavi will have to make his back four for the El Clasico sans Jules Kounde.
