Brentford owner Matthew Benham is considering selling part or all of the club, potentially valuing the Premier League team at over £400 million. Rothschild has been engaged by Benham to explore investment options for Brentford, with a formal process anticipated to commence soon.
A spokesperson for Brentford recently acknowledged the club’s interest in seeking new investment, considering it natural and perhaps even necessary. Benham, who acquired full ownership of Brentford in 2012, has been instrumental in their ascent to the Premier League and remains deeply committed to the club.
While it’s uncertain whether Benham will opt for a minority or majority sale, Brentford affirms his continued dedication to their cause. Potential US investors, drawn to the club’s recent rise and its pre-season tour to the United States, are expected to show interest.
Should Brentford accept US investment, they would join a growing list of Premier League teams with American ownership. The club’s spokesperson emphasized the necessity of exploring investment opportunities to ensure Brentford’s long-term future and competitiveness in the elite league.
Earlier this season, a Brentford spokesperson said: “Given the recent rise and growth of our club and the changing shareholder landscape within the Premier League, it’s no surprise that there has been interest in investment opportunities at Brentford FC.
“While Matthew Benham’s commitment to the club remains as strong as it ever was, it is only natural, and perhaps even essential, for us to carefully explore what new investment could potentially mean for the future of Brentford FC.
“We must not stand still and we remain absolutely determined to safeguard the long term future of Brentford FC and to remain competitive in the world’s most challenging and successful league.”
Having secured promotion to the Premier League in 2021, Brentford has made significant strides in establishing themselves as a top-flight contender. Despite challenges such as injuries and player suspensions, Brentford remains focused on maintaining their position in the league and securing a stable future.
