Let us take a detailed look at the season of Indian Clubs representing India in the Asian Stage:
Mumbai City FC:
Mumbai City FC defeated Jamshedpur FC 3-1 in the Club Playoffs at Manjeri, Kerala, to go to the AFC Champions League 2023–24 group round. The Islanders will now make history as the first Indian team to take part in several AFC Champions League group rounds.
As they won the League Shield in grand fashion, the Islanders were in a class of their own. Mumbai City FC led the league in both goals scored in a season (54) and points earned (46) in a single campaign. Mumbai City FC came very near to complete the league schedule unblemished, but two losses in their final two games prevented them from accomplishing that goal.
Des Buckingham’s team saw a lot of success during the campaign. Mumbai City FC had a good team that was up for the task, with youthful players blending in nicely with their more seasoned comrades, from the defence to the attack.
For Mumbai City FC, it was their problem with goals surrendered from set-pieces during a season where it was difficult to separate the positives from the drawbacks. Their hopes of winning the double were dashed when they lost their final two league games, which hindered their momentum heading into the semifinals.
Odisha FC:
Odisha FC, the champions of the Indian Super Cup 2023, defeated Gokulam Kerala FC 3-1 in a playoff game to clinch a berth in the AFC Cup 2023–24 group stage. Diego Mauricio scored a hat-trick in the victory. The Juggernauts defeated Bengaluru FC earlier to win the 2023 Super Cup.
Odisha FC’s players, management, and supporters will always remember the 2022–23 ISL season as it marked the team’s first-ever playoff appearance. With Gombau back in the Odisha camp, the team took on a completely new appearance and gained a reputation for their relentless attack, using the young and talented players at their disposal.
The ability of Odisha FC to outscore opponents is one of the main factors in the team’s top-six finish. The Juggernauts have given up more goals than they have scored, but their attacking ethos has led to several comebacks.
The Juggernauts’ worst flaw this season was their inconsistency. The squad showcased a costly brand of football but was unable to maintain it for lengthy periods of time. Consecutive victories were punctuated by losing stretches, which disrupted the team’s momentum, and Odisha FC will undoubtedly want to improve on this in the coming season.

ATK Mohun Bagan:
In the Hero Club Playoffs on Wednesday at the EMS Corporation Stadium in Kozhikode, Kerala, ATK Mohun Bagan defeated Hyderabad FC 3-1 on penalties to secure a spot in the AFC Cup 2023–24 preliminary round.
In the exciting 2022–23 Indian Super League (ISL), ATK Mohun Bagan went on a true roller coaster journey. The Mariners overcame many obstacles to win the ISL championship in the final in what was their first season with fans inside the stadium.
The Mariners had a terrible lack of first-team players for the majority of the season as they lost important players. To conclude the campaign on a strong note, Juan Ferrando made sure that his players dealt with a lot of significant problems and played through injury-plagued periods.
Although they have grown beyond themselves in Ferrando’s first season as manager, the team still has some issues that need to be fixed. Hugo Boumous and Dimitri Petratos provided a formidable offensive threat for the team, although they were only sixth in goals scored. When Petratos and Boumous couldn’t hit the mark, players like Manvir Singh, Liston Colaco, Ashique Kuruniyan, Federico Gallego, and Kiyan Nassiri failed to provide support. Ferrando will seek to alleviate the over-reliance on only two players before the upcoming season.
