Previously, Qatar hosted the most prestigious tournament in the continent back in 1988 and in 2011. Among other developments, the President of QFA, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani has also been appointed as the Chairman of the LOC (Local Organising Committee for this tournament.
The AFC Asian Cup in Qatar will kick start on 12th January 2024 and will continue till the 10th of February 2024. The Secretary General of QFA, Mansour Mohamed al-Ansari has been appointed as the Managing Director of the AFC Asian Cup.

The other members of the Local Organising Committee that will be in charge of the AFC Asian Cup include – Ahmed Abdulaziz al-Buainain, Ibrahim Khalil al-Muhannadi, Hani Talib Ballan, Mansour Mohamed al-Ansari, Ghanem Ali al-Kuwari, Mohamed al-Suwaidi, and a representative from the Ministry of Interior.
Earlier, China was supposed to be the host of the tournament. But owing to China’s Zero-Covid policy the host nation had to be changed. Back in October of 2022, the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) decided to announce Qatar as the host of the tournament.
Both Indonesia and South Korea decided to submit their bids to host the tournament after China withdrew owing to its zero-covid policy. But, ultimately it was the Middle East country who got the right to host the tournament. A couple of months back, Qatar successfully hosted the FIFA 2022 World Cup.
