Adidas refute claims of suggesting Mason Greenwood’s comeback to Man United

The jersey sponsor of Manchester United Adidas has denied reports that Mason Greenwood will return to the team.

Adidas, the producer of Manchester United’s shirt, has stated that they have not conducted negotiations with the club over Mason Greenwood’s comeback. Other reports on Friday evening suggested that the sportswear company has cleared a possible return for the 21-year-old.

In a statement, Adidas said: “After inaccurate and speculative reporting within the media it’s important for us to clarify that Adidas has had no discussions with Manchester United regarding any member of their playing squad.

After being suspended indefinitely, the 21-year-old attacker has not played for United since January 2022. Greenwood was charged with assault, attempted rape, and coercive and controlling behaviour at the time of the decision.

The Crown Prosecution Service withdrew the accusations in February 2023. Mason Greenwood, on the other hand, has continued to work separately from the rest of United’s team while an internal inquiry is ongoing.

A choice was anticipated to be made prior to the 2023–24 season. During the current transfer period, a loan move for the England international was being discussed. Adidas allegedly gave the go-ahead for United to let Greenwood back into their fold, but they have disputed this.

“We play no role in any decisions made regarding any member of the team or staff at the club.” the statement added.

Greenwood has appeared in 129 games for United, scoring 35 goals. In 2020, he made his lone appearance for England against Iceland. United have already signed two players during the current transfer window. Rasmus Hojlund is ready to follow Mason Mount and Andre Onana through the door at Old Trafford.
