Gianluigi Donnarumma is not having a joyous return home when AC Milan plays PSG in the UEFA Champions League. During the match, AC Milan supporters hurled fake banknotes at Donnarumma, the now PSG goalkeeper. The phoney banknote is an expression of the Utras’ indignation at Donnarumma’s treachery and a response to the Italian’s manner of leaving the club.
Wearing No. 71 t-shirts, the AC Milan supporters in the Curva Sud pelted Donnarumma with fake money. The former Milan goalie was playing his old team at San Siro for the first time.
There are rumours that the notes included the terms “Dollarumma,” “Mercenary,” and “Man without honour.” According to Neapolitan folklore, the number means “man with no values.”
After Gianluigi Donnarumma declined to sign a new deal with Milan, he became a free agent and joined PSG. The ultras of the team charged the Neapolitan goalkeeper of betraying the faith the team placed in him as a young player by claiming he was asking too much money to stay at Milan.
Donnarumma has played in the San Siro twice with the Italian national team since leaving Milan, both times receiving jeers from the local supporters. Gaining another win would be a major step towards making it to the round of sixteen after defeating Milan 3-0 in Paris two weeks prior.
