Super Cup 2023: Indian Super Cup Training Facilities:  Kerala Blasters, have decided to travel almost 185 kilometres (from Kochi to Kozhikode) for each match. It is because the accommodation and training facilities offered to them in Kozhikode were inadequate. As a result, the crew opted to relocate to Kochi for better amenities. Kerala Blasters, on the other hand, play their games at the EMS Corporation Stadium in Kozhikode. This comes after the amenities offered by the Kerala Football Association and AIFF were criticised by East Bengal FC Head Coach Stephen Constantine. “The accommodation arranged for the team was around 45 km away from the venue. After considering the training and accommodation facilities, the team management felt that travelling from Kochi for the match was the best option,” said a source in the Blasters’ team management to TOI.

As of now, the team is planning to travel to Kozhikode from Kochi a day before the match day and use its training facilities at Panampilly Nagar in Kochi. If the team qualifies from the group stages, the management may have a relook on their travel schedule,” added the source.

Three Hero Super Cup clubs have already complained to AIFF about the inadequate training facilities, with two filing formal written complaints. Teams have expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of drinking water and ambulances at the AIFF and Kerala FA practise facilities. Kottappadi Stadium in Malappuram is one of the training grounds for Manjeri teams. However, East Bengal’s head coach, Stephen Constatine, has stated that accessibility to the stadium is a concern.

“Who will take responsibility if one of my players suffers an injury after practising here?” asked a fuming Constantine.

Local Super Cup organisers admitted that the practise facilities available to teams were inadequate. They were hoping for some financial assistance from the state government through the KSSC in order to carry out the competition. Nevertheless, because it did not come through, they are now suffering financial difficulties.

However, Kerala’s training facilities are generating issues for all teams. Following an earlier probe, the administration of Mohun Bagan decided to practise at home. The squad is currently on the move. Bagan will face Gokulam in the Hero Super Cup tomorrow.
