Manchester United coach, Erik Ten hag was recently asked about his role in the Man United takeover. He said, “They leave me [alone] which is fine because all the others have to decide, it’s not up to me. My job is to lead, to manage the first team, to let them perform and get the right results, that is what I have to focus on.”

He once said he met Sir Jim Ratcliffe and during this interview, he clarified, “In a previous press conference I said Sir Jim Ratcliffe, I met him and we shook hands but that is all. It was a coincidence because we coincidentally met in the corridor so not officially, I was not in contact with anyone.”

The Glazers put the club’s valuation at £6 billion when they decided to sell the club. They hired the Raine Group to handle the incoming bids. The largest bids came from the Qatari Sheikh Jassim and the English businessman, Sir Jim Ratcliffe. However, by the first deadline given by the Raine Group, the highest bid amount reached £4.5 billion.

Club officials then invited all the bidders to Old Trafford to give them presentations on Man United’s future plans and to reveal the club’s financial records. Both Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim visited the club grounds and meeting with them lasted for hours. The club invited other bidders as well who presented smaller bids to buy partial stakes of the club.

One of the bidders that wanted to buy a partial stake in the club is the former AC Milan owner, Elliott Investment Management. Another potential buyer that has emerged as a new interested party is Thomas Zilliacus, the Finnish businessman. However, as per reports, no one is taking him seriously because he declared to buy half stakes of the club with £3 billion. Additionally, he asked 1 billion Man United fans to donate £3 each to buy the rest of the stakes.

However, the Glazers and the Raine Group have shown no hurry with the process and have delayed deadlines multiple times. This has made many people doubt whether the Glazers want to actually sell the club or not. There have been rumours that Joel and Avram Glazer want to buy off their brothers or sell parts of the club.

The two brothers will then operate the commercial part themselves by separating that part from the footballing part. However, the selling process is still ongoing and after the presentations, the bidders were given a second deadline. Sir Jim Ratcliffe gave an improved bid which was a record-breaking £5 billion. However, that still remains £1 billion less than Glazers’ valuation.
