Leicester City New Coach: Leicester City is reported to be eyeing an experienced interim manager to avoid relegation from Premier League. The Foxes are in serious danger of the drop which led to the club sacking manager Brendan Rogers after a successful term where he led the club into Europe and won their first-ever FA Cup in the 2020-21 season. According to reports of The Independent, the club wants to bring in Martin O’Neill. Follow Premier League LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN
The Foxes called time on Rodgers’ four-year stint with the club lying second last in the league table. The club is searching for his successor, as they approached dismissed Chelsea coach Graham Potter, however, the former Brighton manager rejected the proposal.
With Crystal Palace supposedly going back with experienced Roy Hodgson’s management, Leicester City is also eyeing to bring in an interim experienced manager to save their sinking ship. Interestingly, they could bring 71-year-old Martin O’Neill who previously managed the club between 1995-2000 where he guided the team to promotion to Premier League from Championship and won two League Cup trophies.
Considered one of the best managers in Leicester’s history, the Northern Irishman hasn’t been in the touchline since his last job at Nottingham Forest in 2019 and could consider a return to the East Midlands.
Moreover, The Independent also states Rafa Benitez is also another name as an option for the Leicester City hierarchy, who had been without a job since parting ways with Everton in the 2020-21 season.
In the meantime, Brendan Rogers’s assistants Mike Stowell and Adam Sandler have taken charge of the Foxes, with an unchanged outcome yet again, as Leicester City lost 2-1 to Aston Villa last night. After the game, Sandler refused to give any update on the managerial position, as he states, ‘The club have asked me to take the game tonight, that’s what I have done, I know nothing more than that at this stage.’
Leicester City now prepares to host fellow strugglers Bournemouth on the weekend in a crucial tie, as the Foxes are adrift of just two points to their weekend’s visitors in the relegation zone.
