Real Madrid took the lead in the first half, thanks to a Pau Torres own goal. However, Villarreal’s Chukwueze levelled the scores with a brilliant finish. However, Vinicius Jr’s goal early in the second half restored Real’s lead. But Villarreal came back in the 70th minute with Jose Luis Morales’ goal. Chukwueze then secured the win for Villarreal, curling a delightful shot past the Real goalkeeper.
With just ten La Liga games remaining, Real Madrid’s hopes of defending the title have taken a major blow. The Los Blancos would need a considerable collapse from Barcelona to have any hope of retaining their title.

Meanwhile, Villarreal’s win moves them up to fifth in the table, four points off the top four.
Barcelona will be looking to capitalize on Real Madrid’s slip-up when they take on Girona on Tuesday. If they secure a victory, they will move 15 points clear at the top of the table.
