Due to numerous scheduling concerns, the event was not held for 4 years. The most recent edition, which took place in 2019, saw FC Goa emerge victorious. The winners of this competition will compete in a second play-off against Gokulam Kerala, for a spot in the 2023–24 AFC Cup group stage. Gokulam Kerala will automatically qualify for the 2023–24 AFC Cup group stage if they win this competition alone. The Super Cup victors will get their first opportunity to compete in an AFC matchup this year.
SUPER CUP: A team can start a match with a maximum of six foreigners (5+ 1 Asian) in the match day squad (Starting 11 + 10 Substitutes). On field, at any given point of time, a Participating Club can only field up to four foreign players. #IndianFootball #SuperCup

The tournament proper will include 16 elite clubs across the top two levels of Indian football. The 2022–23 I-League champions and all 11 ISL teams will automatically go to the group stage. The four remaining slots in the qualification play-offs,will be decided by the teams who finished second through tenth in the 2022–23 I-League. The 16 eligible clubs have been divided into four groups of four, and each group will play one round of competition. The group winners will advance to the semifinals.
