For the first time ever, the senior national team of India will compete in Imphal, Manipur. The games will take place in the legendary Khuman Lampak Stadium, which has previously hosted both group stage games of the renowned Durand Cup in August 2022 as well as several Hero I-League matches. India is expected to take part in a substantial number of international competitions in the upcoming months. Together with the FIFA window in March, the country will also host the Intercontinental Cup and the SAFF Championship.
In June and July, India will host the Intercontinental Cup and the SAFF Championships (dates to be confirmed). Initially, Nepal was selected to host the SAFF Championship. However, due to commercial and marketing considerations, India was awarded the hosting rights. The Asian Games, which were postponed in 2022, will now take place in September 2023. The squad, which will play in China, will primarily consist of U-23 players with a few seniors.
The 2023 edition of the AFC Asian Cup will be held in Qatar and is set to begin on January 12, 2024. The Qatar Football Association has confirmed that the country will host the premier competition after successfully hosting the FIFA 2022 World Cup. Qatar, the current AFC Asian Cup champion, will host the event for the third time.
