FA Cup: The FA Cup last night did not have any shortage of drama whatsoever. Brighton and Manchester City recorded easy wins for themselves, whereas, Sheffield United scored an injury-time goal to win 3-2 against Blackburn Rovers. In Manchester United’s game, the drama was twofold. Fulham received THREE RED CARDS in the 72nd minute and the game completely imploded for them. Fans were left fuming after comparing Aleksandar Mitrovic’s red card for pushing the referee to Bruno Fernandes’ unpunished shove on a linesman against Liverpool. Follow FA Cup LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN

Mitrovic lost his head after Willian was sent off in the 72nd minute for a handball on the line. As referee Chris Kavanagh returned from the VAR monitor to send off the former Chelsea man, Mitrovic proceeded to push the official. Immediately, Mitrovic was shown a red card and Fulham was reduced to nine men on the pitch.

This comes after Fulham coach, Marco Silva had also been given his marching orders for encroaching on the referee as he looked at the VAR monitor. A lot of football fans were quick to point out the difference between this incident and Bruno Fernandes’ shove to the referee at Anfield earlier in March.

The 28-year-old Portuguese playmaker, who helped Man Utd advance to the FA Cup semifinals with two goals, got away with no punishment despite appearing to push the assistant referee during United’s embarrassing 7-0 loss to Liverpool. Inconsistencies with similar incidents were not something fans were willing to let go of.

Reacting on social media, one person said: ‘Mitrovic was ridiculous there 😂. 🤔 But his push on the ref was no less than Bruno Fernandes on the linesman the other week. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Where’s the consistency?’. Another fan said, ‘Sent Mitrovic off for touching an official, but didn’t do the same to Fernandes a few weeks ago. Where is the consistency?’

Another fan said, ‘What Mitrovic did was disgraceful but Fernandes basically did the exact same thing at Anfield. Both should’ve been straight red cards.’ A fourth fan added, ‘Just seen the Mitrovic red card. Pretty sure Bruno Fernandes got away with doing the exact same thing a couple of weeks ago. Howard Webb strikes again…’.

Even the talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent complained about the double standards on Twitter. He shared, ‘Bruno gets nothing for pushing a linesman but mitrovic gets a straight red for bumping the ref , inconsistent VAR Embarrassing.’ United will now face Brighton in the FA Cup Semifinals on the 22nd of April. In the other game, Man City will battle Sheffield United.
