They would comprise Ukrainian athletes like Oleksandr Zinchenko of Arsenal and Mykhailo Mudryk of Chelsea, who founded Football for Ukraine. The contest’s exact format has not yet been determined. Yet, there is hope the game would attract interest from the Premier League and around the world.
Within the first two weeks of August 2023, it is anticipated that the game will take place. This means it would likely be in pre-season ahead of the 2023-24 season kicking off on August 12. Other Premier League players expected to participate include Illya Zabarnyi of Bournemouth and Vitaliy Mykolenko of Everton. Following Russia’s invasion, Zinchenko and his business partner Artemy Ryabov established the Football for Ukraine initiative. Chelsea, the Arsenal Foundation, Puma, Nike and Common Goal all support the charity. Andriy Shevchenko, a legend for both Ukraine and Chelsea, is also participating in the movement. The information was released when Chelsea agreed to play a friendly match against Shakhtar Donetsk following the transfer of Mudryk.
After receiving repeated inquiries from Zinchenko’s team, Arsenal, Mudryk decided to go to west London. On Sunday at Wembley, the duo will play England in Ukraine’s first Euro 2024 qualifying game.
