Gerard Pique’s name on Luis Enrique’s preliminary 55-man roster for the World Cup in Qatar, has caused some questions. The Barcelona defender has not represented Spain since 2018, but he appears to be in contention for the tournament. He previously won both the World Cup in 2010 and the Euros in 2012 for Spain. The 55-men squad featured some notable names like Sergio Ramos, Iago Aspas, and Kepa Arrizabalaga. However, very feew expected to see Barcelona centre defender Gerard Pique on the list.

The ironic part is that Pique is having his poorest season at Barcelona. Despite his position as vice-captain, he trails Eric Garcia, Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo, and Andreas Christensen in Xavi’s team. Only four of the experienced centre defender’s eight appearances this season have been starts. All of Barcelona’s other central defenders, including Marcos Alonso, have been preferred over him.
FIFA World Cup: Spain ace defender Gerrard Pique receives shocking World Cup call back despite retirement-Check OutLuis Enrique will soon have to choose a maximum of 26 players from the 55-man roster to send to Qatar. However, both Pique and Ramos are anticipated to be dropped from the team and will not travel to the World Cup. Enrique is expected to select a combination of Aymeric Laporte, Inigo Martinez, Pau Torres, and Garcia. The other centrebacks on the list are Diego Llorente and Hugo Guillamon, which suggests there’s no scope for Nacho Fernandez, David Garcia, or Yeray Alvarez, all of whom may believe they have a stronger case than Pique.
