Alcohol is permitted in hotel bars, restaurants, and other private locations; but, during the tournament, these limits have been loosened. For most of the past month, beer outlets have been set up outside eight stadiums.

A senior Qatari royal, according to the New York Times, requested that the alcohol outlets be moved to less noticeable locations late last week. It is believed that Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, the ruler of Qatar, gave the order.

Given that he is the royal who is most involved in the daily organisation of the competition, it was thought that the order was inflexible. The beer stalls are moving, according to AB InBev, the parent company of Budweiser.

“AB InBev was informed on November 12 and are working with FIFA to relocate the concession outlets to locations as directed, the Belgium-based company, which includes Anheuser-Busch,” said on Monday in a statement. “We are working with FIFA to bring the best possible experience to the fans.”

Only in September was the compromise on beer sales in Qatar revealed, allowing beer containing alcohol to be offered outside the stadium walls before and after games. Only Bud Zero without alcohol may be consumed during games and within the stadium bowl.
