The growing popularity of sports documentaries – programmes on Manchester City, Arsenal, and, more recently, Wrexham – made the World Cup an appealing offer, and with rivals such as Amazon Prime turned down, it signifies a victory for Netflix. ‘Captains,’ as it will be dubbed, is expected to arrive on the streaming service next summer. It is thought to be a multi-million-pound arrangement with FIFA+, the organization’s television arm. The current series is a follow-up to the documentary ‘Captains,’ which covered the qualification campaigns of several teams, including Croatia and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Gabon.
The makers of Sunderland ‘Till I Die have created a ‘fly on the wall’ Netflix documentary of the captains at the 2022 World Cup.
Morocco’s miracle and Thiago Silva’s Brazil QF heartache will be the main storylines.

In the run-up to Qatar, England turned down a number of offers for a targeted series on the Three Lions, fearing it might distract Gareth Southgate’s group. Kane looks to have adhered to his guns in an attempt to keep his entire concentration on football by giving this rumored Netflix program a wide pass.
‘It’s not my cup of tea. I’d be surprised if the group of players we’ve got would have an interest in that,’ Southgate said of a possible documentary before the tournament. Kane, who is reportedly not involved in ‘Captains’, said earlier in the year: ‘I’ve not been contacted about my wife [being involved] and she hasn’t. But we don’t want any distractions.’
