Blaise Matuidi declared on Twitter that he was retiring from football at the age of 35. The midfielder, who made his professional debut in 2004, will have donned the uniforms of Saint-Etienne, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus Turin, and Inter Miami. Matuidi, who is among the finest in his position according to some, is closing the book on his career as a top athlete.
“Football, I loved you so much. Football, you gave me so much, but the time has come to say stop. I accomplished my dreams as a child, my dreams as a man. It is with a tight throat but with pride that I turn this page today,” he said.

The midfielder’s greatest successful period came during a six-year stay with Paris Saint-Germain, when he won four Ligue 1 championships and made just under 300 appearances across all competitions after making his debut at Troyes and subsequently Saint-Étienne. After three years with Juventus, where he won three Serie A championships and a Coppa Italia, he finished his career in the United States at Inter Miami. Throughout the course of his nine-year international career, he made 84 appearances and scored nine goals.
He established himself in the public’s eyes while playing for six seasons with Paris Saint-Germain, where he won five Champions Trophies, four French championships, four French Cups of the League, and three Coupe de France. Matuidi has 84 appearances for the France squad. He was one of Didier Deschamps’ stalwarts, playing for the Blues in the 2016 Euros, and winning the world championship in 2018.
