Manchester City’s star was left bleeding on the floor following an unintentional elbow to the face in the Premier League’s early kick-off on Saturday afternoon. Laporte was treated on the field and finally returned to the game, but he may be worried about his World Cup spot with Spain, given the likelihood of more head injury symptoms. Laporte returned to the field seven minutes later and made a wonderful sliding clearance in the penalty area to deny Ivan Toney an open goal.

Maddison scored the first goal of the game against West Ham, but he was forced off 25 minutes later with hamstring pull, with Dennis Praet taking his place. The incident occurred only days after it was revealed that the 25-year-old had been selected to England’s World Cup team. With the competition commencing on November 20, many were concerned, but Brendan Rodgers has quelled those anxieties.

The Three Lions look to be in terrific shape. It didn’t seem terrible when Maddison went down and had to be replaced, but Rodgers’ soothing statements that the change was only a precaution may have helped assuage worries that Maddison might miss England’s opening game.
