FIFA WC France Squad: FIFA World Cup 2022 LIVE – In what has become quite a recurring issue for players and teams, injuries have destabilized the team’s balance and plans. In what can be called only a heartbreaking time to get injured as a player, Nkunku was injured training with the French team, just a couple of days before the start of the FIFA World Cup. The RB Leipzig forward apparently collided with Eduardo Camavinga, which left Nkunku with an issue with his left leg.

He immediately felt something wrong and limped off the training session, in what seemed to be an ankle injury. After further medical tests, it was confirmed by the French national team that he would miss the tournament.

The RB Leipzig star has been in sublime form this season, netting 12 times and assisting twice for the Bulls in Bundesliga. His omission will be a huge miss for Deschamps as Nkunku could have been a struggle for opposition defenders to deal with.

The French attack is pretty stacked, just like Brazil’s squad, with the likes of Mbappe, Benzema, Griezmann, Dembele, Giroud, Coman, etc, but Nkunku will surely be missed by Deschamps and co. No replacement has been named but it is rumored that Eintracht Frankfurt striker, Randal Kolo Muani is set to be Nkunku’s replacement.

This injury is the latest in a long list of injuries for Les Bleus. Nkunku will join the likes of Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante, Presnel Kimpembe, Boubacar Kamara, and Raphaël Varane (he’s been named in the squad, but is in a fight against time to get back to 100% fitness) to be ruled out of the tournament. The task to retain the FIFA World Cup is getting harder for the French team with each passing day and it will be interesting to see if they can go all the way with a slightly depleted squad.
