Earlier, Gerard Pique’s inclusion in the 55 men’s probable squad had turned a lot of heads. However, following his retirement from Barcelona, it is no surprise that the veteran defender will not make it to the final list, not playing for the team, since 2018. however, the surprise lay in the absence of Sergio Ramos. Ramos has had quite an impressive season with the Ligue1 champions.

Another absence that has brought over a lot of criticism for the Spanish Coach is the decision of leaving out Spain ace goalkeeper David De Gea. The custodian had provided some top notch performances in the manchester United outfit recently. Despite of that, De Gea not being called for the tournament is a decisional that is being frowned upon heavily. a striking feature of Luis Enrique’s squad has been the high representation of FC Barcelona players in it.

Luis Enrique declined to comment on the players who were left out, but the absence of veterans like De Gea, Thiago and Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso points to the manager’s preference to go all-in with Spain’s new generation of talent.

“Youth gives you freedom because you are not yet aware of the consequences,” Luis Enrique said. “Yet, most of the youngsters that are with us are already in high-level teams.”
