Before Ajinkya Rahane’s heroics in Mumbai, the record for the fastest half-century in 2023 was held by England opener Jos Buttler. The right-handed opener slammed a 20-ball fifty against Sunrisers Hyderabad while playing for the Rajasthan Royals. Third on the list is a surprise package in the form of Shardul Thakur, who scored 76 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Mumbai all-rounder equaled Buttler’s record of a 20-ball half-century and won the game for KKR against the Red Army.
Third on the list is Lucknow Super Giants’ opener Kyle Mayers, who looked in ominous touch against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. The West Indies’ batter slammed a 21-ball half-century, but unfortunately, his team lost the game. The fifth player on the list is Chennai Super Kings opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, who slammed a 23-ball half-century against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Indian opener KL Rahul holds the record for the fastest half-century in IPL history, scoring a 14-ball half-century against Delhi while playing for Punjab in 2018. He’ll be joined by Australian Test Captain Pat Cummins, who smashed the Mumbai Indians to all corners of the MCA Stadium in Pune in 2022 and reached his half-century in only 14 deliveries.
