F1 Monaco GP: Jenson Button

In the 2003 Monaco Grand Pix, Jenson Button had an accident which is considered his heaviest crash of all time. After leaving the tunnel during the practice session on Saturday, the British driver touched two barriers and headed sideways at 185mph into a tyre divider. Button was momentarily left unconscious as he spent a night in the clinic.

F1 Monaco GP: Sergio Perez

The year 2011 saw a then youngster Sergio Perez crash at Monaco and it was identical to Button’s crash. He hit a barrier while coming out of the tunnel and crashed sideways in the tyre barrier at an incredible speed.

The Mexican driver was rushed to the hospital after suffering a concussion and a sprained thigh. He later pulled out of the race and made a comeback a month later in the European Grand Prix.

Derek Daly

The main corner of Sainte Devote is many times the location of carbon fiber flying in the air and the beginning of the 1980 Monaco Grand Prix race had a lot of that. Derek Daly’s Tyrrell trickled over Bruno Giacomelli and lost its back wing. Meanwhile, he even saw his car bounce over the highest point of different drivers.

Nobody was harmed in the race but there were four drivers who had to retire their cars in this process. These drivers included Daly himself, Giacomelli, Jarier, and Alain Prost.

Alberto Ascari

The two-time F1 champion (1952 and 1953), Alberto Ascari had a nightmare in the 1955 Monaco race. Subsequent to leaving the tunnel, the Italian hit the chicane only to wind up off the circuit as infamously go into the water! Ferrari’s very first titleholder was fortunate not to suffocate and was immediately hauled away to an emergency clinic and was released soon after.

Meanwhile, Ascari tragically died four days later as he was seen driving a sports car at Monza and his Monaco crash was his last action in F1.

Martin Brundle

Martin Brundle was one of the drivers lucky to get away from genuine injury in 1984 when he had an accident at Tabac in his Tyrrell during qualifying. Though he was not able to qualify for the race, Brundle was fortunate enough to be able to walk away without suffering any serious injuries.
