Toto claims that Mercedes as a team have been less competitive in Monaco for the past couple of years. “Monaco in the past wasn’t our most happy place, maybe because the car had the size of an elephant. But I’ll be curious to see where we are this weekend,” he said.

“We still struggled with the warm-up a little bit. So my expectations for Monaco are lower than on any other circuit. I’m not sure I can explain scientifically why that is, but it’s going to be another learning point, at least, to bring us back into the game,” Wolff further explained.
Mercedes showed a glimpse of light at the Spanish Grand Prix after getting upgrades to their W13 challenger. They had installed new winglets under their car with an end goal to further develop airflow. Moreover, changes were made to the floor also in order to cut down on the terrible porpoising issue.

After having a great race in Barcelona, the Mercedes fans will have their hopes high from the team. But, Toto Wolff wants the fans to lower their expectation for Monaco as it hasn’t been a great hunting ground for Mercedes.
Notably, Mercedes have only won five times in the last ten years at the Monaco Grand Prix. Nico Rosberg won three times and the seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton won twice. It has been a circuit where Mercedes have struggled as there is less chance of overtaking.
