The FP3 session was dominated by Red Bulls Sergio Perez as he took home the first spot and he was followed by Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen in the second and third positions. The first time Azerbaijan hosted a Grand Prix was back in 2016 and since then it has staged five races in total. In 2020, the race didn’t go ahead because of the Covid-19 restrictions. The race will take place in the street circuit of Baku, which is the capital of Azerbaijan. Red Bull driver Sergio Perez, who will be fresh from a victory in the Monaco GP, is the last winner in Azerbaijan.

The track was ‘by definition’ built for F1, because it is a street circuit on the F1 calendar, joining the positions of Monaco, Melbourne, and Singapore.

When was its first Grand Prix?

The first Grand Prix in Baku was held in 2016, as the European Grand Prix. Then in 2017, the race was held under the name of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, which saw perhaps the greatest surprise of the time, with Daniel Ricciardo winning out from Valtteri Bottas and the Williams of Lance Stroll, while Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel engaged in a fierce behind the Safety Car.

Who won the last Grand Prix?

Sergio Perez won the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix as he was followed by Sebastian Vettel in second place and the third place was taken by Pierre Gasly.
