The Spaniard will break the record for the longest ever F1 career in the pinnacle of the sport. Sunday’s race in Baku will mark 21 years, 90 days, and eight days since his debut at the 2001 Australian Grand Prix.

That will put him above Michael Schumacher in terms of longevity, as Schumacher’s F1 career spread over 21 years and 90 days precisely. The two drivers share the idea of enjoying breaks from the sport, with the German legend having resigned from Ferrari in 2006 before getting back with Mercedes four years after the fact.

As far as the overall wins in F1, Alonso lies 6th on 32, a long way shy of Hamilton’s 103. However, Alonso still is performing at the highest level on a regular basis, doing a fine job for Alpine.

There’s one more record that Fernando Alonso will surpass this year as the Monaco Grand Prix marked the 340th F1 race start of his career. He is nine starts behind Kimi Raikkonen’s tally of 349. Meanwhile, if he completes the full 2022 season then he will break this record in Singapore on Sunday, October 2.
