PUBG Battlegrounds turns to a Free-To-Play model: As the game-changing title that had given life to the Battle Royale genre, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS had changed the FPS completely. While it was hugely popular in its early phase, it was quickly overshadowed by other games like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone. Each brought in something new to the genre and some of them were completely free-to-play. Finally, it was announced during The Game Awards 202, that PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS will shift to a free-to-play model from January next year.

PUBG BATTLEGROUNDS will have an option for a Plus Account

Those who opt for the free-to-play model will get a basic account that will provide them with most of the features of this Battle Royale game. Still, new players have a chance to get a Plus account by spending a one-time amount of $12.99. This will provide them with Survival Mastery XP + 100% Boost, Career – Medal Tab, Ranked Mode, and the ability to create and play in a Custom Match. Players will also receive Captain’s Camo Hat, Captain’s Camo Mask, Captain’s Camo Gloves, and Bonus 1300 G-COIN.

PUBG BATTLEGROUNDS veteran players will receive Plus Account and other rewards

For those veteran players who have already purchased the Battle Royale game earlier, they will receive the PUBG – SPECIAL COMMEMORATIVE PACK. It will provide them with a free BATTLEGROUNDS Plus account upgrade and automatically unlock the Costume Skin Set (Battle-hardened Legacy Corset, Jacket, Gloves, Pants, and Boots), the Shackle and Shanks Legacy – Pan, and the Nameplate – Battle-hardened Legacy.

You need to have purchased the game before the free-to-play remodeling happens to receive this special pack. According to the developers, the list includes:

On Steam: Players who purchased or acquired the game through a redeem code before the free-to-play transition on January 10, 2022, at 10 AM PT.
Xbox/Stadia: Players who have created and set up the in-game nickname after purchasing the game before the free-to-play transition on January 10, 2022, at 10 AM PT.
PlayStation: Players who purchased the PUBG – Special Free To Play Transition Pack for free on PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS in-game store between December 12, 2021, at 11 PM PT to January 10, 2022, at 11 AM PT.
Due to local laws and platform policies, Japanese PlayStation accounts will need to purchase the “PUBG – SPECIAL COMMEMORATIVE PACK” for ¥100 from the in-game store as the team is unable to provide free products in this region.

PUBG BATTLEGROUNDS: Pre-Registration has begun

Players can pre-register for this transition which will take place on 12th January 2022. They will receive a Highside Slick Lv. 1 Backpack Item, a Highside Slick T-Shirt Item, and one Preset Slot Coupon (7 Days) in the game when they log in.

PUBG BATTLEGROUNDS: Invite your friends and get more in-game rewards

If you want to delve into this game, add in a group of friends through your invite link. If you get three friends to pre-register, you will unlock a Highside Slick Lv. 1 Helmet Item, an Iron G-Coin Box Item, and 1 Bonus Reward Entry.
