Olympic Esports Series 2023: IOC faces criticism over the section of the titles for the competition – International Olympic Committee yesterday announced the Olympic Esports Series 2023, a global virtual and simulated sports competition created by the IOC in collaboration with International Federations (IFs) and game publishers. A total of nine games are part of the competition, however, the global esports community believes their favorite games are being omitted. - Archery (World Archery Federation, Tic Tac Bow)
- Baseball (World Baseball Softball Confederation, WBSC eBASEBALL™: POWER PROS)
- Chess (International Chess Federation, Chess.com)
- Cycling (UCI, Zwift)
- Dance (World DanceSport Federation, JustDance)
- Motor sport (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, Gran Turismo)
- Sailing (World Sailing, Virtual Regatta)
- Taekwondo (World Taekwondo, Virtual Taekwondo)
- Tennis (International Tennis Federation, Tennis Clash)
Reactions from the esports community
Talking about the selection of the same, the esports community across the globe feels hard done by. Most of them believe that there must have been other games. Some of them understand the reason behind the omission while some are baffled.
Great concept, but the only actual video game competition is Gran Tourismo. I understand not wanting to boost violent video games, but still pretty cringe.

Only one actual game (GT7) and it’s platform-exclusive. Huge failure. Also why care only about simulations of existing sports? Failing to recognize the sport inherent in gaming itself is a failure across the board.
