Esports Update: ESPN to host All Women Call of Duty Tournament

The Call of Duty League’s Minnesota Røkkr, ESPN Esports and esports networking platform eFuse have partnered to host an all-female Call of Duty tournament, presented by Crocs. The #WeRokk tournament will stream on October 29 on the ESPN Esports Twitch channel with three teams playing for a $10,000 prize pool. Gamers hoping to compete in the tournament can register as a team of four on eFuse’s website to participate in a qualifying round scheduled for October 21.

Popular gamers from Call of Duty esports organizations participating in the event include Cloud9, Gen.G, G2, Optic Gaming and Washington Mystics WNBA forward Aerial Powers.

This isn’t the first all-women tournament. Recently we got to see an all-women tournament for Valorant and it surely will not be the last. Women need a place to join in esports and feel like they belong.

The notion that women don’t belong in gaming is outdated and should have never been a thing to begin with. We are sure to see some real major prize pools for all-women events though, which should only be a matter of time.

1,000 Dreams Fund Announces BroadcastHER Summit

The First-Ever Virtual Summit for Women in Streaming and Gaming in partnership with Twitch. The two-day virtual event was exclusively stream on 1DF’s Twitch Channel, featuring a diverse line-up of talented women content creators and industry thought leaders along with live performances by SavingMusicLIVE, a Twitch Channel devoted to supporting charity through music.

“It is our hope that our first-ever BroadcastHER Summit, part of our BroadcastHER Initiative for our growing community passionate women content creators and gamers, will help empower all the talented women in this industry to reach their individual gaming and streaming goals in even bigger ways,” 1,000 Dreams Fund Founder and CEO Christie Garton says.

1DF launched their BroadcastHER Initiative in 2018 specifically to support underserved women content creators who stream. While women represent nearly 50% of gamers and are rising in influence in the esports industry, they still face hurdles including gender gaps in salaries and prize earnings and a lack of financial support to fund their creative projects. We hope this Call of Duty tournament will help reducing the gap.

The two day event which was a success saw thousands of viewers all supporting females in esports and breaking the male dominated industry’s stereotype.

· Mental & Physical Health in Gaming, Broadcasting, & Esports

· Accessibility in Gaming, Broadcasting, & Esports
