The Indian Government (GOI) released new rules for online gaming, which prohibit any game that involves betting and wagering, and entail a framework of multiple self-regulatory organizations (SROs) to determine whether a real-money game is permitted or not. A source close to GOI mentions that to come down even further on the betting games, and applications, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is likely to issue a notice to fintech and payment companies, ordering them to restrict the access of their payment gateways to Non-permissible Online Games.
This comes after Government of India introduced a self regulatory system on Online Games, laying down a framework for them to be certified as permissible games. Previously, we have seen Meity taking strong steps against such applications. Now, going forward, it remains to be seen how things pan out.
