National AVGC Policy: Government of India to announce a new Policy and Mission to Boost Animation, VFX, Gaming, and Comics Industry – The Union Government is preparing to unveil a new policy and mission focused on AVGC (Animation, VFX, Gaming, and Comics). According to Apurva Chandra, the Secretary of Union Information and Broadcasting, the Ministry is finalizing the Cabinet Note and will soon engage in inter-ministerial consultation. Speaking at a seminar on AVGC in Mumbai on May 3rd, 2023, Chandra commended Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana for their successful AVGC policies.
National AVGC PolicyChandra also announced the launch of a National Center of Excellence in Mumbai this year, which will collaborate with industry bodies like FICCI and CII to develop industry-focused courses. Additionally, four to five regional centers are planned for the center of excellence. The government plans to invest 200 Crore rupee in purchasing equipment not commonly available in India for use by AVGC startups and others.
Chandra also mentioned plans for a Seed Capital Fund for AVGC startups and encouraged industry members to take advantage of incentives for post-production and AVGC projects. He assured the industry that the government would introduce a simple framework for awarding incentive.

Chandra stated that Doordarshan could potentially have its own dedicated kids channel and called on private industry partners to produce content for Doordarshan on a no-profit-no-loss basis.
