CWG 2022 Esports: Indian DOTA 2 team gets walkover as opponent fails to show up- In an interesting turn of events, the Indian DOTA 2 team got a walkover in Day 1 matches of the Commonwealth Esports Championships, as opponent Trinidad and Tobago failed to show up at the venue. Although the reasons are still unknown, Trinidad’s absence propelled India to a walkover and canceled 2 of the 5 matches set to take place today. Trinidad and Tobago is not the only team that failed to show up for the Commonwealth Esports Championships. The DOTA 2 team from Pakistan failed to show up at the venue as well, leading to the cancellation of yet another match for today.

CWG 2022 Esports: Indian DOTA 2 team gets a walkover after Trinidad and Tobago fail to show up at venue

The CWG 2022 saw the inclusion of eSports in a mainstream sports championship for the first time. The Commonwealth Esports Championship will see teams battling it out over three gaming titles: eFootball, DOTA 2, and Rocket League. India is participating in two of these three games: DOTA 2 and Rocket League, and both teams received a grand send off before they left for Birmingham.

Day 1 matches of DOTA 2 were set to take place today. However, India got a walkover, since their opponent for the day, Trinidad and Tobago, failed to show up at the tournament venue in Birmingham. The reasons behind this unfortunate event are still unknown. However, it directly propelled India to Day 2 matches without having to compete at all.

Apart from Trinidad and Tobago, the Pakistan DOTA 2 team, too, failed to show up at the venue of the CWEC. It is said that the reason behind their failure to show up was a lack of funds to purchase tickets to the venue. However, as for Trinidad and Tobago, the reasons are still unknown.

Updated DOTA 2 match schedule for Day 1 of CWEC 2022

Since 2 of the 5 teams failed to show up for the tournament, 3 out of the 5 matches of the day stand canceled. However, India is the only team to receive a walkover to Day 2 of the tournament, since the other teams still have to compete against other teams to qualify. The England vs Wales DOTA 2 match is currently ongoing, and fans have one more match to look forward to today.

Players can expect to see the DOTA 2 teams from New Zealand and Malaysia go head to head in battle later today. However, the matches of India vs. Trinidad and Tobago, New Zealand vs. Pakistan, and Trinidad and Tobago vs. England stand cancelled.

Day 2 will see India competing against Wales and England, while the matches of Malaysia vs Pakistan and Wales vs. Trinidad and Tobago stand cancelled for the DOTA 2 event. For more such updates about CWG 2022 Esports, keep following InsideSport.IN.
