BGMI has been banned in India on 28th July 2022 following the government’s directive. The removal of BGMI from the Google Play Store and App Store led to the disappointment of fans across the country, as the game recently completed 100 million registered users on the platform. Furthermore, the esports scene of Battlegrounds Mobile India was reaching heights recently, with multiple LAN events taking place. Can BGMI be unbanned and make a comeback?

Currently, it is unknown if BGMI will make a comeback on Google Play Store and App Store. The Indian government banned BGMI under section 69 A of the Indian IT law which was previously used to impose the ban on other titles like Free Fire and PUBG Mobile. BGMI developers will need to adhere to the rules and regulations of the Indian Government to enable a path for return.

After the PUBG ban in 2020, Krafton had simply rebranded the same game as BGMI and relaunched the title. It has been revealed that the servers might still have some direct or indirect links in China, thereby leading to the subsequent ban on the title again. Therefore, fans can only hope for a return of the popular title if Krafton redevelops the title completely to fit the norms set by the Indian government and not just make a rebranded copy of the previously banned PUBGM.

The CEO of Krafton India addressed the removal of the game, saying,

At Krafton, Inc. the security and privacy of our user data are of utmost importance to us. We have always been compliant with all laws and regulations in India including data protection laws and regulations and will continue abiding by them. In line with this, we have been working hard to communicate our sincerity to the concerned authorities and resolve the issues.”

After the PUBG Mobile ban, Krafton rebranded the popular BR title to fit the policies of the Indian government and launched it as Battlegrounds Mobile India. The game saw a successful year before it was banned again by the government. Now, it remains to be seen whether the game gets unbanned or Krafton develops yet another title to replace the beloved BR title in India.
