Battlegrounds Mobile India aka BGMI Banned in India

In a conversation with News18, a senior government official confirmed the BGMI Ban under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2000. Following the government’s orders on BGMI removal, all the ongoing Battlegrounds Mobile India events were stopped, postponed, or canceled.

But ROOTER surprisingly has continued with the planned event. Today is the DAY 6 of the event and it continues NON-STOP despite Government’s DIRECTIVE.

What is the current status with BGMI? The popular Battle Royale game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store following the Government’s orders (Section 69A of The Information Technology Act, 2000).

Following the removal of the game from both major platforms, Krafton issued an official statement.

Krafton India’s CEO, Sean Hyunil Sohn, commented on the removal of BGMI from App Stores. He mentioned that the user’s data and privacy is first priority of the company. Krafton has followed all the rules and regulations (including data protection laws and regulations) while launching Battlegrounds Mobile India in the country.

He further added, There may be questions in your minds regarding the current situation about the country’s most loved game- Battlegrounds Mobile India. In Line with this, we have been working hard to communicate with our sincerity to the concerned authorities and resolve the issues. “

He requested players and the organizers of events to wait for future announcements from the officials.

He also thanked all users for their support and love for BGMI. The game recently celebrated its first anniversary. Within 1 year of release, the game completed the milestone of 100 million registered users on the platform.

Gaming Industry shocked as Rooter hosting BGMI Invitational Series

Following the BGMI ban, multiple LAN events and online events were postponed till further notice. But the gaming industry was shocked after Rooter continued the BGMI Invitational Series Finals. More than 5-6 events have been cancelled due to the sudden development.

Now the big question is – Is Rooter flouting local government norms?

As per government officials, the game was banned under Section 69A of the IT Act 2000 which gives the power to the government to restrict the access of the game in the country following the security threat to the country.

To be fair to ROOTER, unlike during PUBG BAN – Government hasn’t issued a clear-cut directive of BAN on BGMI. But according to some experts DIRECTIVE or no DIRECTIVE the company is flouting rules by running a event in a GAME which is BANNED by the Government of India.

The issue stays DEBATABLE.

But few days ago, incident of similar nature was recorded in Bangladesh. A local organizer was hosting an offline event on a banned game in the country. The local police raided the event and arrested 108 people including players, and management.
