The 2024 PUBG MOBILE World Cup (PMWC) Main Tournament, as part of the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, concluded. Alpha 7 Esports made history in being the first team crowned PMWC Champions. Months of training and weeks of competing culminated in an electrifying weekend which saw the Brazilian team rocket to the top of the leaderboard, earning themselves the 2024 PMWC title, official trophy, and lion’s share of the $3,000,000 USD prize pool.

Alpha 7 Esports lifts the Trophy of first ever PUBG Mobile World Cup

The atmosphere in Riyadh’s Esports Federation Arena was amazing, as fans watched every second with unfaltering passion. In what was another exhilarating showcase of world-class talent, the performances over the last three days embodied the spirit of the inaugural 2024 PMWC, with record-breaking displays and constant surprises throughout. There is no better demonstration of this than the major leaderboard changes from day one to day three. Fans saw Vampire Esports climb from last place to seventh, and Tianba jump from eighth to third. The conclusion of day two saw Alpha 7 Esports sitting comfortably at the top of the leaderboard with four wins. They have been followed closely by rival team REJECT, who had previously beaten them to the crown in the 2024 PMGO.

Tensions were high heading into the final day with the fate of the title still uncertain. In the mid-table, things were just as tumultuous, with the likes of Talon Esports, DRX, Tong Jia Bao Esports, Tianba, and BOOM Esports snapping at each other’s heels. Kicking things off with a bang, Alpha 7 Esports secured their fifth victory of the tournament, setting a new record. In another record-breaking moment, REJECT’s Reijioco stunned fans with a mind blowing 420-metre elimination in the fourth match.

In last day, Alpha 7 Esports’ victory was looking certain with a 27-point lead over REJECT in second place. Whilst the two giants played safe throughout the game, the significance of this match would be seen in which team would join these two on the podium. The final game saw several trades amidst chaotic firefights between DRX, POWR Esports, and Tong Jia Bao Esports, with Tianba’s shan being the last-standing, engaging from afar trying to pick off some final points. In the end, it was Alpha 7 Esports’ surgical decision-making, playing safe when necessary and aggressive when the moment was right, which saw them take home the first ever 2024 PMWC trophy.

Commenting on their team’s hard-fought victory, Alpha 7 Esports’s Carrilho said, “It’s a mixture of feelings. We’ve been trying for a long time, it’s a lot of emotions. We’ve been trying and finishing second, third place, as people made fun of us — but there was no other team, it had to be us.” They continued, “We would like to thank our family, our fans, and everyone who always supported us. Thank you very much.”

With their victory, Alpha 7 Esports earned the right to destroy the keys of their rivals, including REJECT’s 2024 PMGO Championship title, Vampire Esports’ 2023 PUBG MOBILE World Invitational (PMWI) Championship title, and IHC Esports’ 2023 PUBG MOBILE Global Championship (PMGC) title. In doing so, Alpha 7 Esports expressed their respect for these teams, noting that they are some of the best in the game.

James Yang, Senior Director of PUBG MOBILE Global Esports, says: “We cannot express enough just how amazing this year of PUBG MOBILE Esports has been. The PUBG MOBILE World Cup has been a real milestone and we are blown away by the continued support from teams and fans around the world. Teams continue to exceed expectations with their mind blowing performances, which seem to only get better every day. We want to say a huge thank you to everyone involved and we look forward to seeing even more fantastic displays at the PUBG MOBILE Global Championships in December.”

Among these many exciting moments is the reveal of the Infinix Dream Squad, which celebrates the top four players from the 2024 PMWC Main Tournament based on the MVP formula. Alongside bragging rights for being the best of the best in the competition, these players also get their hands on a brand new Infinix GT20 Pro World Cup Edition. The Infinix Dream Squad is composed of REJECT’s Reijioco, Tianba’s QZZ, and Alpha 7 Esports’ Mafioso and Revo77k.

2024 PMWC is the first of its kind, bringing teams and fans across the globe to participate in the prestigious Esports World Cup, delivering showstopping performances to fans new and existing alike. This inaugural event builds on PUBG MOBILE Esports’ reputation as being one of the most-watched Battle Royale Esports worldwide, and the continued success of its esports circuit, which kicked off with the brand new PMGO in Brazil earlier this year.
