ESL Challenger League Season 46 reveals Schedule, Format, and prize pool distribution

ESL Challenger League Season 46 moved to FACEIT, aiming to provide CS:GO community with a more trusted, balanced, and enjoyable team league experience, powered by an unmatched anti-cheat technology. The 46th Season start date is planned for mid-August this year.

With Season 46 pushed back to start in August, and in response to valuable feedback from participating teams, ESL has strategically combined the two remaining ESL Challenger League seasons of 2023 – Season 46 and 47 – into one. This modification aims to optimize scheduling by minimizing overlap with our other ESL Pro Tour events and by providing competing teams with ample breathing space and break time. ESL Challenger League (ECL) Season 46 releases a new schedule, format, and prize pool distribution.

Here are the key updates for ESL Challenger League Season 46:

New Schedule:

  • Europe: The regional season is set to begin on October 3, 2023.
  • North America and Asia: Both regional seasons are set to start on August 15, 2023, and will include a break during the ESL Pro League (EPL) Season 18 on August 30 – October 1.
  • The Playoffs for all three regions are scheduled from November 20 to December 3, 2023.
  • The match days and times will remain unchanged from previous seasons and continue to take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays:
    • Europe: 7 PM CEST.
    • North America: 8 PM EDT.
    • Asia: 8 PM CST.
  • The complete schedule will be announced soon.

New Format:

The ESL Challenger League Season 46 will be played out in a new format

  • North America and Asia will see 16 teams compete in a single group round-robin format, with the ten best teams advancing to the Playoffs.
  • In Europe, the tournament will consist of 24 teams and three competition stages:
    • The first stage will feature four groups of six teams competing in a round-robin format.
    • The second stage will feature three groups of eight teams competing in a double-elimination format.
    • The ten best teams will advance to the Playoffs.

New prize pool distribution:

  • Combining the prize pools of the initial two seasons, while also supporting teams placing lower in the competition, the new prize pool distribution is the following:
  • Europe: $100,000
  • North America: $100,000
  • Asia: $40,000

Qualification to the ESL Pro League:

The ESL Challenger League is a gateway for ambitious and dedicated teams worldwide to make their mark and qualify for ESL Pro League. The ECL S46 winners and runners-up from each region will secure a spot in Season 19 of EPL, set to take place in Malta in 2024.
