The Norwegian international on Thursday broke a record in the Premier League that wasn’t breached for the last 28 years. After just 31 games, the ravenous ace now has 35 league goals for the year. He is now the only player in the division to have scored more goals in a single season thanks to his return. The legendary English players Andy Cole and Alan Shearer each recorded a stunning 34 goals in their respective 42-game seasons in 1993–1994 and 1994–1995.
Now, in a 38-game season, Haaland has gone on to shatter their records, and there are still five games left to further solidify it. After the game, the 22-year-old received a guard of honor from Man City players and staff before going into the tunnel.

He has now scored in each of his past six consecutive league outings thanks to his goal against West Ham. In a simple 3-0 victory, the former Borussia Dortmund star’s goal was sandwiched between goals from Nathan Ake and Phil Foden. Even when the rest of the club seemed to be struggling, his goals have been crucial in keeping City’s pursuit of a third straight championship on course.

Erling Haaland’s words after breaking the record
Talking about his record-breaking goal, Haaland said, ‘[It’s a] Special night and a special moment. I’m really happy and proud. Of course I knew about it but we tried to create the chances to score goals, they came here to try and defend for 90 minutes. It was an important win. You see what my first thought is, to run towards the goal.’
Talking about the Guard of Honour, Haaland admitted that it was quite painful. He said, ‘It was really painful this guard of honour, everyone hit me in the back, but it was really nice. I’m really happy.’ When asked if he could break Dixie Dean’s all-time record of goals for a top-flight club – 63 in the 1927-28 season, he said, ‘We cannot keep thinking about these records, I will become crazy in my head. I will go home now and play some video games and tomorrow we will think about Leeds.’
