Reportedly, Gary Kirsten is one of the names ECB are considering for the vacant position. The 54-year-old from South Africa started his professional coaching career with the Indian cricket team and played a crucial role in the men in blue’s World Cup triumph in 2011.

He has since coached South Africa and a few franchise-based teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore and Hobart Hurricanes and is currently associated with the newly-formed Ahmedabad franchise in the Indian Premier League, where he is a mentor. England are set to begin their summer with a series against New Zealand in June and should Kirsten take up the role, he would have to quit his mentorship at Ahmedabad.
