England playing XI: Will Ollie Pope play ahead of Zak Crawley/ Dominic Sibley?

Joe Root-led England and Virat Kohli’s India are all set to take on each other at Lord’s after opening Test washout denied 1-0 advantage to the visitors. As we are heading to the second Test at Lord’s, the problems for Joe Root-led England are plenty in the batting department. In fact, the other players have failed to perform well except skipper Joe Root. But they are undergoing a specific issue with the batting department in the top 3. The likes of Dominic Sibley, Rory Burns, and Zak Crawley failed to provide good starts for England in the opening Test.

Ollie Pope had to sit out of the opening Test as he was yet to recover from injury. Even though the Surrey batsman has been off-colour in his recent outings, he is still considered as a promising talent in England. Dan Lawrence who scored 0 and 25 is likely to make way into the playing XI. Meanwhile, the place of Zak Crawley will now come under scrutiny. He has scored a depleting average of 11 in seven Tests this year. His last fifty came 10 innings ago. The 23-year-old could make way for Haseeb Hameed who had excelled against India in 2016. Sibley too has also let down England in last few innings. He has scored just two fifties in last 7 Tests. However, Rory Burns had done well against New Zealand in June. The latter had slammed a century and fifty in two Tests.

mitted that changes are possible to the XI. “We’ll talk about selection over the next couple of days,” he told Telegraph.
