England Cricket has received a major boost as speedster Jofra Archer has joined the camp. England are slated to play South Africa on 21st October but Archer will not be a part of it. Archer who has joined his side as a traveling reserve is recovering from his elbow stress fracture and can play a part in the England squad in the later part of the World Cup. Archer last featured for England in March and for competitive cricket in May for IPL 2023. However, he oon picked up his injury and couldn’t complete his stint with the Mumbai Indians.

Injuries have plagued Archer for the last couple of years. After recovering from a back injury he was out of cricket for over a year. Following this, he picked up his elbow injury and missed a greater portion of 2023.

“He’s coming in as a reserve, so he’s not in the squad. And he’s continuing to build up and rehab, and that’s a great place for him to be able to do that, in and around the squad here. Obviously, if he builds up and everything then, should the worst-case [scenario] happen, it’s a conversation,” Josh Buttler said a couple of weeks ago.

Since Archer is a traveling reserve he won’t be drafted into the Playing XI immediately. In fact, his arrival in the squad has been a boon. Now England has another option to go back to the latter stages of the tournament when Archer becomes match fit.

England are now placed 5th on the Points Table after winning just 1 out of their 3 games. The Three Lions next face South Africa at the Wankhede on 21st October.
