Joe Root became the second English cricketer to go past 10,000 Test runs after the former England captain scored a magnificent match winning century on Day 4 of the ENG vs NZ 1st Test. Set a tricky 277 chase, Root ensured that his team crossed the line with ease, slamming his 26th Test century on the process.

Root’s achievement meant that he was now the 14th cricketer to achieve the landmark, and the first of this generation’s Fab Four. The 31-year-old is the first to join the 10k club since 2017 after Younis Khan was the last player to breach the barrier during the Test series against West Indies.

Root is first batter in Test history to complete 10,000 runs in less than 10 years. Interestingly, both Root and Cook were of the exact same age when they got to the landmark – 31 years and 157 days. The duo are the youngest to the 10k mark, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar, who was 31 years, 10 months and 20 days old when he scored his 10000th run.

Joe Root has been in the form of his life over the last 12 months, and even won the ICC Test Player of the year award.The 31-year-old is leading the charts for the most runs in the current edition of the ICC World Test Championship with 1301 runs.
