The first game of the competition will be between West Zone and Northeast Zone in Chennai, starting September 8. On the same day, North Zone will also face East Zone in Puducherry. Both the matches are quarterfinals with Central Zone and South Zone already in the semifinals. The last four matches are scheduled for September 15 start.

The competition has also undergone changes in the last few seasons. The zonal format had been done away with. It was replaced with just three teams comprising India Red, India Green and India Blue. But now, it is the return of the previous zonal format, which allows more players to be involved.

In fact, the competition also provides a chance for the Indian players to impress the selectors in the longer format. The likes of West Zone captain Ajinkya Rahane will be especially determined to deliver and make his return to Indian Test team. Hanuma Vihari and Mayank Agarwal will also look to shine and impress the selectors once again.
