Disney+ sets release date for Formula 1 Brawn GP Series featuring Keanu Reeves

Disney+ has set a release date for a Formula 1 Docuseries on the magical 2009 season of Brawn GP. Hollywood Superstar Keanu Reeves will be directing the series.

Formula 1 is growing by leaps and bounds every year. Liberty Media is ensuring the sport grows in America. The influx of Hollywood stars in the sport has helped as well. Keanu Reeves is the latest to join this list. He will be presenting a docuseries on Brawn GP, the team that won the 2009 championship. Mercedes would take over the team next year, and well, the rest is history.

Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story

Brawn GP was a team that literally rose from the ashes of another team. After the global recession of 2008, Honda decided to sell its team but couldn’t find any buys. Ross Brawn came in at the last minute and bought the team for a single pound.

Through his connections in the world of Formula 1, he was able to secure a Mercedes engine for 2009. Unbeknownst to them, Honda had made one of the best chassis on the grid, featuring the famed double diffuser.

Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello secured a 1-2 finish in the team’s first race. Brawn GP would go on to win both championships that year, Jenson being the drivers’ champion.

Disney+ and Keanu Reeves

This Disney+ series is being presented and co-produced by Keanu Reeves. It has interviews with all of the main protagonists: Ross Brawn, Jenson, Rubens, and their technical director, Nick Fry. Christian Horner makes an appearance as well because Red Bull were their only challengers for the Formula 1 titles.

Disney+ says this series features a lot of previously unseen footage. Meanwhile, the star power of Keanu Reeves is enough to catch a lot of eyeballs.

The Birth of Something Special

The success of Brawn GP with Mercedes engines inspired the German company to return to Formula 1. They took over the team in 2010 and brought Michael Schumacher back.
