Dipa Karmakar SUSPENDED: The International Testing Agency (ITA) announced on Friday that Dipa Karmakar has been suspended for a term of 21 months for the use of an illegal substance, with the suspension taking effect until July 10, 2023.  The 2016 Rio Olympian tested positive for higenamine (S3. The positive sample was collected on behalf of the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) in the scope of an out-of-competition control on 11 October 2021.

Dipa Karmakar on Saturday released a statement regarding the doping ban. Read Below.

A case settlement agreement was used to resolve the dispute in accordance with FIG Anti-Doping Rule 10.8.2. (FIG ADR, and equivalent provision in the World Anti-Doping Code). Results for the athlete are no longer valid as of October 11, 2021.

The first gymnast from India to compete in the Olympics was Karmakar. She finished fourth in the final of her first Summer Olympics in 2016.

Seven National Games medallists, 3 others fail dope Test

Promising athletes from throughout the nation have tested positive for prohibited substances, including high-end drugs like metenolone, methandienone, stanozolol, and methandienone, all of which are anabolic steroids.

10 athletes from the weightlifting, athletics, wrestling, cycling, judo, football, wushu, and lawn bowls disciplines have failed the dope test, according to TOI.

These athletes’ urine samples were collected during the Gujarat National Games, which were conducted from September 27 to October 10 in six Gujarati cities.

By chance, seven of the ten drug cheats were on the podium at the National Games. All athletes risk a two- to four-year suspension if they cannot demonstrate their innocence before the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel (ADDP).

Among those who have failed the dope test are women’s 55kg silver-winning weightlifter Veerjeet Kaur (ligandrol), women’s 49kg silver medallist weightlifter Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu (drostanolone metabolite), women’s 100m bronze medallist sprinter Diandra Valladares (stanozolol m etabolites), men’s 97kg greco-roman gold and silver-winning wrestlers, Deepanshu and Ravi Rajpal (both methandien one). Kerala’s bronze medal-winning men’s football team forward Viknesh (terbutaline), men’s lawn bowls silver medallist Soumen Banerjee (eplerenone), wushu player Harshit Namdeo (mephentermine), judoka Navroop Kaur (metenolone) and cyclist Roobalpreet Singh (metandienone) are the others.
