Delhi Capitals No Ball Controversy: “Sir will you go or should I go?” – RESTLESS Rishabh Pant asked Pravin Amre to intervene during no-ball fiasco

Rishabh Pant was restless and furious as umpires Nitin Menon and Nikhil Patwardhan did not relent to Delhi Capitals’ pleas to review a waist-high full toss during their tense final loss against the Rajasthan Royals.

Rovman Powell had hit the third successive six off Obed McCoy and the DC dugout were seen gesturing to the umpire, asking for a referral to check for no-ball. At that stage, DC, needing 36 runs from the final over, were staring at a winning target of 18 runs from the last 3 balls.

Had the umpires ruled that McCoy’s high full-toss was above the waist RR would have to bowl an extra ball and also concede a free hit. But the umpires did not budge much to the frustration of Rishabh Pant who signalled the players to return to the dugout. He then discussed options with coach Pravin Amre, who later walked onto the field to chat with the umpires.

As per an Indian Express report, Pravin Amre was unwilling to enter the playing field but Pant refused to give up and the DC coach gave in. “Pant told Amre that ‘Sir, will you go and talk to the umpires or shall I go?’. At that stage, Amre felt it would be unwise for the skipper to walk onto the field and that is why he went and spoke to the umpires,” said a source the DC dugout told the publication.

The move did not work as the umpires stayed with their decision and Delhi eventually lost the game by 15 runs. The IPL governing council came down heavily on DC with Rishabh Pant fined 100% of his match fee while Shardul Thakur, who argued with the 4th official was fined 50% of his fee. Pravin Amre was banned from the dugout for a game, which could have been handed to Pant had he walked in on the field.
